yaten a tao ya, no i-pi-mina-minasi ta o ka-doa-n jiaten am,

它   經常        叔叔  好      阿姨     好    阿公  好     阿嬤

wari ciong”,”sira kaka kong”, or(i) o ya ta ma-sánib a  ta

ya i-panci no  ta i-pi-mina-minasi o ka-doa-n jiaten,

說          當 我們      問候            別的     我們

我們達悟族呢,當我們彼此問候的時候,最常說的是”叔叔好”,”阿姨好”,”阿公好”,”阿嬤好”,”各位男性朋友們好”,”各位女性朋友們好”,”弟弟/妹妹大家好”,”哥哥/姊姊,大家好”,這是我們彼此間常說的問候話,

We Yami people, when we greet each other, it is most common to say “hello uncle,” “hello auntie,” hello grandpa,” “hello grandma,” hello all my male friends,” “hello all my female friends,” “hello, younger brothers, sisters,” “hello, older brothers, sisters,;” these are the most common greetings that we use.

am no ji mo á-singkaj-i o tao am, ori pa o k-ai mo do

但 若  不 你    看不清楚     人      那樣 才    來  你     

pongso a, ala i dehdeh o maci-nanao pa a amian do pongso ya

島上      可能   外地人     學習        還   在        島上   這

am, no ma-niring sira o i ra-rakeh ito am, “ko ma-cíta o ya

若        說      他們      老人     那個      我  看見        

asa ka dehdeh am, na to manci-an yaken a ‘marran kong’ koan

一      外地人      他 就  對..說    我       叔叔   好     說  

na yaken am, ko ma-niring jia am, ‘sino ka ya’ koan ko”,

他   我       我    說      他        誰  你 這    說   我

但是你若不認識的人, 又初次來到我們島上,或者說是外地人在這島上學習(我們的話), 比如有老人說,”我遇見了一位外地人,就問候我說’叔叔好’,我說’你是誰呀?’

If you meet someone you do not know, and it is your first time on the island, or it is an outsider coming to our island to learn (our language,) for example. Some old man said, “I once met an outsider who greeted me and said, ‘hello uncle,’ and I said, ‘who are you?’”

若  看清楚了            他們  人        已知      他們    親戚

a, ni-apo-an am, or(i) o ika-pía no akma sang a ma-k-owbot,

     父母輩       那樣     才好         像   那樣     出來     

“sira maran kong”,”sira kaminan kong”, ori no aro sira, am

 他們  叔叔   好     他們   阿姨    好     那個    很多 他們   但

ano asa ka tao am, “maran kong”,”kaminan kong” am ori,

若   一     人        叔叔  好      阿姨    好    就是 那樣

若是看清楚了對方,也知道他們是親戚,或是父母親(尊親),這樣問候起來就比較好(妥當),說”各位叔叔們好”,”各位阿姨們好”,這是當(對方)人多的時候的說法,但如果只有一個人,就說”阿姨好”,”叔叔好”即可,

If you see the other person clearly and know that he/she is a relative, or your father or mother (respected family) then this greeting works better, saying, “hello uncles,” “hello, aunts.” This is how to say it when there are multiple people, but if there is only one person, then “hello auntie” or “hello uncle” is sufficient.

am no dehdeh o m-ai do pongso ya, a mey maci-nanao pa do

但 若  外地人    來       島上  這     去      學習    才

ciri-ciring ta am, ni-apia na akmey pi-mina-minasi-an nira

  語言,話    我們      最好   它 像        問候           他們

am, “akókey”, ala apia-pia ori a i-panci koan da no

      你好    可能   較好     那個    說     說  他們   

ra-rakeh ya,

 老人     這

但若是外地人來到我的島上,學習我們的語言時,問候他們最好的用語是 

”akókey”, 老人是說,這樣比較好(恰當)吧,

If an outsider comes to our island and is learning our language, the best way to greet them is to say ”akókey.” The old man meant that this is probably more appropriate.

or(i)o ya to pa-toáw-a do jia, ya alíkey a ha-hapan ta   

那個       就  說出來       這裡  它   很小     方式    我 們

sia do pongso iya, ka-paka-teneng da jia no

它       島上  這個     才知道       他們 它            

i-pi-mina-minasi ta sira o ra-rakeh,

問候                 他們      老人

這是我在這裡提出這樣短短的說明,也是我們島上的問候方式,讓他們知道什麼情況下問候老人家比較好,

This is the short explanation that that I am giving. This is the way of greeting people on our island, letting them know which way of greeting old people under different circumstances is better.

ano m-ówney rana do pongso ya, ka-ténng-an rana sira ori

若    很久           島上    這     已知           他們  那些

am, apía rana, ma-sónong rana o i-pi-mina-minasi-n nira

    很好         很順                    問候        他們 

“maran kong”, “kaminan kong” koan na,

  叔叔   好       阿姨    好    說   他

當(他們)在島上待久了,跟他們也熟識了以後,用”叔叔好”,”阿姨好”等問候語

也就自然且順口了,

When (they) have stayed on the island for some time, and we start to get to know them, then using “hello uncle” or “hello auntie” will start to become more appropriate and natural.
