什麼 它 很小 屬格 水 我們 繫 全

處格 島上 這 它 小小的 助 屬格 島上 我們

助 就 它 跟隨,隨著 助 處格 很大 屬格 溪河 助

[譯:我們島上的水怎麼這麼小?因為河水本就這麼小,所以小]

The reason that the water on our island is so little is because the river is small to begin with.

2.ori an ji tamo macikekcini a ji tamo macililikei

那樣 助 不 我們 叫餓 繫 不 我們 嫌小

do ranom ta a mitoktok do pongso an,

處格 水 我們 繫 全 處格 島上 助

[譯:所以我們全島人不要叫餓(因為水不够灌溉,無法豐收),不要嫌水小]

So the villagers on the island should not complain about hunger (because the water is not enough for irrigation and thus we cannot have good harvest); we should not complain that the water is too little.

3.jiakakoan na ta, ta kongoen tamo so wajin

理所當然 它 助 因 怎麼辦 我們 斜格 哪裡

do nizcikan na do pipangapangan na do tokon,

處格 源出 它 處格 山腳下 它 處格 山上

[譯:本來就是,山裡的水源(就是這麼多),我們還能怎樣?]

Indeed, the source of water in the mountain is very limited, so what can we do?

4.ya apo saon ya do angit o ranom ya omosok a ya makas

助 從 助 這 處格 天空 主格 水 這 下來 繫 助 掉落

koan ta am, ta na citaen do tamo mey toratodan do

說 我們 助 我們 已 看 處格 我們 去 坐處 處格

somalap no avang do ....na ya am, ta to nita

飛 屬格 船 處格 它 這 助 我們 就 看

o pongso am, ya kmi tataoy,

主格 島上 助 助 像 油碗

[譯:我們以為水是天上掉下來的,可是當我們坐上飛機從天上看的時候,

才知道我們島有多小,小的像一支油碗而已]

We thought that the water dropped from the sky, but when we looked at our island from the airplane, we found that our island is really small. It is like a bowl which is used for holding oil.

5.ikong dang o abneken a ranom am, ori ji ta kcini?

什麼 那裡 主格 沒意義 繫 水 助 那樣 不 我們 餓

ta ipikagegegcinan ya ka nira zipos ta

因 不均等 這 和 他們 親戚 我們

kadoan lili a mitoktok do pongso am,

別的 村莊 繫 全 處格 島上 助

ya nimaveveh na o tokon ta, ori na kagatoan am,

助 最矮 它 主格 山 我們 那樣 它 突出,高過 助

[譯:我們還談什麼水, 不餓才怪?我們(野銀村)跟其它村所以不一樣,

因為我們的山很低矮,…….]

It does not make any sense to talk about water. How can we not feel hungry? We are different from other villages because the mountain in our village is the lowest.

6.o kadoan lili am, ya marahrahem do ta citan sia am,

主格 別的 村莊 助 助 都很深 處格 我們 看 它 助

ciring da no akay ta inanao da jiaten a.

話 他們 屬格 祖父 我們 教 他們 我們 助

[譯:不像別村的山都很深(高?),這是祖先說的]

Our village is not like other villages that have deep (tall?) mountains. This is what our ancestors said.

7.ji tamo macililikeyan an so ranom ta ya asa ka ili an,

不 我們 嫌小 助 斜格 水 我們 這 一 連 村 助

toda arakrako o ranom no kadoan lili,

就 較大 主格 水 屬格 別的 村

ta malavicin o tokon ta do Jivalino an,

因 峭壁 主格 山 我們 處格 野銀村 助

[譯:我們不要嫌村域的水小,說別村的水很大,因為我們野銀村山壁陡峭,

Let’s not complain that the water in our village is very little and envy other villages that have a lot of water, because our mountain is very steep and this has been the case ever since the old days. Concerning the problem of water, I will stop talking about it right here.

8.o ikateymaowyata ta do Jivalino ya asa keyli ya am,

主格 都非常勤勞 我們 處格 野銀村 這 一 部落 這 助

alawan ta, ta abo o kanen ta soli, a nimyapo

担心 我們 因 沒有 主格 飯 我們 芋頭 繫 打從

以前 處格 祖父 我們 那樣 助 不均勻,有落差 它

[譯:我們野銀村所以都這麼的勤勞,是因為我們沒有芋田,担心餓肚子

之故,從祖父輩就這樣。所以我們跟其它村不同]

We are very diligent in Jivalino because we don’t have taro fields and we are afraid of being starved. This has been the case from our grand fathers’ generation. Thus, we are different from other villages.

9.ta ji da lalawan nira zipos ta kadoan lili

因 不 他們 担心 他們 親戚 我們 別的 村莊

o kahakawan da ta, amhakaw sira am,

主格 田地 他們 因 耕作 他們 助

akam sira jiaten a teydeddoa abneng am,

像 他們 我們 繫 每兩塊 塊 助

teytetlo a abneng so nihakawan a wakawakay a,

每三塊 繫 塊 斜格 田地 繫 地瓜園 助

oowan da saon a teysa bneng am,

想吃 他們 助 繫 每一塊 塊 助

kadoan jira o mi da kaoalovotan,

別的 他們 主格 去 他們 集中,集合,共有

[譯:別村人會(開闢田園)種地瓜,但是他們並不是為了担心吃不飽而做;

不像我們一種就種兩三塊地瓜園;別村種地瓜不過是為了滿足口慾,而且

是與其同胞手足合種一塊地瓜園]

The people in other villages also grow sweet potatoes but not because they are afraid of being starved. They don’t have to cultivate two or three fields for sweet potatoes like us; they grow sweet potatoes just to satisfy their cravings. In addition, they plant the same field with their siblings.

10.nimyapo saon do rararakeh nokakoa o kangay da

打從 助 處格 老人 以前 主格 去 他們

mapabedbed a omhakaw do macita da karatayan am,

跟人一起,佔有 繫 耕作 處格 看得見 他們 平原 助

這是關於我們村的情形]

This has been the case from before. When people saw others cultivating fields, they would like to join in. While planting fields in a big plain, they can draw the boundary freely to plant as much as they want. This is the situation in our village.

11.so ji ta mizeziaki do kadoan lili ya an

故 不 我們 講話 處格 別的 村莊 這 助

no mazavozavoz ta, sira rararakeh nokakoa am,

當 混合,集會 我們 他們 老人 以前 助

toda moon siciaikoa ya, ta masnek ta,

就 傳承 現在 這 因 不好意思 我們

ta ji ta mizeziaki?

因 不 我們 講話

[譯:所以在公共場合,跟其它村人混在一起的時候,最好不要多話,以前

的老人是這樣,到我們現代仍是如此,我們覺得不好意思。我們為什麼

不講話?]

Therefore, when we get together with other villagers, it is better for us not to talk too much. It has been the case since the time of our ancestors because we feel embarrassed. Why don’t we talk?

12.ji da pasapasapai so anohod da no mivazay sira am,

[譯:在落成禮歌會的時候,他們(野銀村)會回應別村人的歌,但回應的歌

詞都適中,因為要想到自己是缺乏水源(沒水灌溉芋田)的部落(野銀村),

用地瓜來填飽肚子]

In a completion ceremony (when guests are singing to praise the host’s wealth or ability), they (the villagers of Jivalino) would respond to the singing of the guests from other villages with modest lyrics, because they remember they their village lacks a good source of water (to irrigate taro fields), so they can only fill their stomachs with sweet potatoes.
