It is said that in the flying fish
season, you can not catch other kinds of fish, because the flying fish would be
jealous of it.

This statement is wrong. The reason
that one cannot catch
other kinds of fish during the flying
fish season is because there are only four months during the season, i.e., paneneb month, pkaokaod month, papataw
month and pipilapila month. The next month
is apiaveha. So the flying fish
season only has four months.

Following the custom in the past, the
flying fish season has only four months (in a year) and after the flying fish
season, we still have other months to catch fish. This is why, in the flying fish season,
we can not catch other kinds of fish. It is not the case that the flying fish
would scold human being during that season.

have danger of life. But this is
not caused by the anger of flying fish with us.

If one did not follow the custom
in the flying fish season, and was not careful with his words…, when he was
about to die, you would see changes on his face (symptoms of illness) or changes
in his health. “It is said because
of such and such reason.” If there are changes in one’s body, it is due to his inappropriate
words or behavior during the flying fish season, but not caused by the anger of
flying fish.
